If you’re making a bunch of great video content, that’s amazing! But if no one is seeing it…all your hardwork and value you provide is going to waste.

Not including video as part of your social media strategy is a major way to sabotage your success (curious about other ways you could be sabotaging your social media strategy? Check out our post). Because of that, many brands have put a major focus on video marketing…which is AWESOME.

But many are still making one crucial mistake when it comes to video marketing: leaving off captions.

If you want your content to successfully engage your audience, you have to include captions on every single one of the videos you post online.

Why are Captions Important to Your Social Media Strategy?

The vast majority of people who scroll through their feed are doing so on mute.

Approximately 80% of people on LinkedIn and 85% of people on Facebook watch videos on mute. Whether they don’t want to disturb those around them or they’re just looking for a little privacy, most people who interact with your video will do so without sound.

People scroll past your videos when they don't have captions

If you don’t have captions on your videos, you’re missing out on a ton of engagement. As much as 85% of your followers could be scrolling past your content.

Adding captions to your videos will make sure those silent scrollers can still gain value from your videos.

How Do You Create Captions for Your Videos?

There are many different tools that you can use to create captions for your videos. We recommend these 2 services:

1. Rev

Rev is a transcription service that hires high-quality transcriptionists that can create captions for your videos. Although transcribing content and writing captions are different, Rev has freelancers that specialize in both areas.

With Rev, you can receive one minute worth of video captions for $1.

2. Temi

Temi, an automated speech-to-text transcription service launched by Rev in 2011, is a less expensive option.

With Temi, your brand can receive 1 minute for 10 cents. Keep in mind that this service uses AI, so your results may not be quite as accurate as they would be if you were to use Rev’s services.

Regardless of the service that you choose to use, it’s important that you include captions on every single video. Make sure they’re optimized for use on Facebook, Youtube, and Instagram.

Video captions make it easy for people to search for your keywords on Youtube, and they help prevent your audience from scrolling past your videos on their feed.
