Interested in checking out the Clubhouse app? You’ll have to hope you get invited first. That’s right.

Now, what is the Clubhouse app? Can marketers and entrepreneurs use it to gain an audience? Is it a good way to connect and network with other professionals? Is it accessible?

This social media app, as of May 2021, is available for both iOS and Android users. However, If you want to use this exclusive app, you will need an invitation from someone who already has an account or join a waitlist.

While you may not be able to use the app right away, you can still learn more about it and its features.

Here’s are a few things you should know about the Clubhouse app before you get your invite:

Audio-only platform

Although Clubhouse is a social media platform, don’t expect to send messages or use a chat feature when you download the app. This app is audio-only, and you can use it to host or join in on conversations with other Clubhouse users.

Typically, the host will discuss a topic or present an idea in a Clubhouse room, and interested users can join the room and listen. In this way, the app is similar to a real-time podcast.

However, it is important to note that the conversations that occur on the app are not saved, just like with a normal call. When a conversation ends, it is gone from the app forever.

Clubhouse rooms

When you use the Clubhouse app, you will be able to see a list of open rooms and topics as well as the Clubhouse users that are in each room. You will also be able to create your own room if you choose to do so.

Rooms can either be open, closed, or social. Open rooms allow any Clubhouse user to pop in and listen to the conversation. Closed rooms are private and invite-only. Then lastly, social rooms are only open to users that the host follows on the app.

While Clubhouse gives off a similar vibe, these rooms are a bit different than conference calls. Clubhouse rooms are moderated, so people are not able to speak whenever they would like.

Think of these conversations like podcasts. For the most part, members listen to the host’s discussions, which is no surprise considering that there are experts, celebrities, and even tech gurus like Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk using this platform to connect and do calls.

If you do want to participate in a discussion, you can indicate this on the app, and the moderator will allow you to speak when appropriate.

With Clubhouse, you can follow topics and people that you like. This helps you discover rooms that appeal to your interests when you open the app. It’s a great way to curate your experience and join communities.

Clubhouse clubs

In addition to rooms, Clubhouse also offers clubs. Users are able to follow specific users and clubs so as not to miss out whenever these users are hosting or joining a conversation. If you want to know whenever Elon Musk, Kevin Hart, or Oprah Winfrey are starting a room on Clubhouse, you will want to use Clubhouse clubs.

Origins

Davison and Seth just recently launched Clubhouse in March of 2020 with just a few beta testers using the platform. Within a few short months, tech moguls, celebrities, journalists, and investors use the platform to look for ways to connect and share information with their followers.

The Clubhouse app provides users with a more intimate and exclusive relationship with opinion leaders and personalities. It offers celebrities a platform to share and explain their thoughts and ideas in real-time, and it gives entrepreneurs and investors the opportunity to connect with one another with ease.

As major names began to use the platform, interest began to skyrocket, and now there are over 1 million users on the app.

Scoring an invite

While we think you’re a VIP, unfortunately, the Clubhouse app is a bit pickier.

Right now, the only way for anyone to join the platform is to receive an invite from a current Clubhouse user. If this isn’t possible, you can always head to the Clubhouse app to join the waitlist and reserve a username until the founders open up the social app to more users.

The future with Clubhouse app

There’s still so much that’s yet to be explored with Clubhouse. Knowing its current features, it can be a good way to network with other professionals and promote yourself.

The Clubhouse app can be a great alternative to conference events that have slowed down to adjust to the new normal. As more people are going online to connect, Clubhouse app has a great potential to be instrumental to the changes of the social media landscape.
