If you want to increase the number of downloads and listeners your podcast receives, you need to boost your search engine optimization. One way to improve your podcast’s reach and become more searchable is by uploading your episodes to YouTube.

OpenShot Video Editor is a user-friendly program that allows you to put audio over a thumbnail of an image. This way, you can turn your entire episode into a movie and upload it to YouTube. While this might seem complicated, OpenShot simplifies this process and will allow you to convert your podcast episodes into videos in just a few easy steps.

If you follow these four steps, your podcast episodes will be on YouTube in no time:

1. Download OpenShot

Before you can use OpenShot for your podcast, you need to download this program. Go to the OpenShot download page and download the version that is compatible with your operating system. OpenShot Video Editor is available for download on Linux, OS X, and Windows.

Once you have downloaded OpenShot, you are ready to start a new project and begin working on your podcast.

2. Set up your thumbnail

The image you choose as your thumbnail will be the same image your viewers will see on your YouTube video. Choose an image that has your podcast and episode title and save it to your desktop.

Once you have opened OpenShot and started your project, you can drag and drop the thumbnail into your timeline. Make sure to put it at the beginning of the timeline so that it is butted up against the edge of the file.

You will notice once you put in the audio that your image is much shorter than you audio file. Feel free to add more images if necessary, or you can simply stretch this image until it is as long as the audio. This will ensure that the same image stays on screen for the entire video.

3. Add your audio

Once you have imported or dropped an image into your timeline, you can add your audio. Import the audio from your podcast or drag and drop it into OpenShot like you did with your image. Again, make sure to move your audio file all the way to the beginning of the timeline.

When you have finished adding the audio, your are ready to save and export your project.

4. Export your project

In OpenShot, go to File and save your project with whatever title you would like. This way you will have a backup if there are any issues when you export your video.

After you save a backup, go to File and click Export. Name your file and then export the video. This will turn your file into a movie that you can upload to YouTube. Make sure you use this file for YouTube, not the backup file that you saved earlier.

If you have transcribed your podcast, you can also upload your transcription onto YouTube. This will allow people to search your keywords and find your podcast when they search online or type certain words on YouTube.

Shaina:                    Hey guys, Shaina here. Today we’re going to talk about how to take a thumbnail for Youtube and add your audio underneath it so that you can upload your entire episode to Youtube because you’re super smart and you want it to be searchable on Google. So this is the easiest way to. You can do it. Basically, we’re using a program called open shot. I mean we’re all video editors here, so we generally use other software, but this is a super, super user friendly free software for you to use to put video, images and audio altogether. All right, and it’s. This is how easy it is. You just download open shot. Here’s the thumbnail for the good to be home prologue, right? We’re going to drag this and drop it here, put it right at the beginning so it’s butted up against the edge of the file, and then we’re going to take the audio, do the same thing, grab it, drag it, scooch it over, and then see the audio is longer than the image automatically populates to be.

Shaina:                    You just grab it, skews it on over, and that’s it. That’s literally it. So when you press play listening now, this is a very short clip just because we wanted to be able to show you how to do it very quickly, but you can go for hours on this with one image and with your whole audio file, you just scroll that image as long as you need it to be and now you have your entire episode as a movie that you can upload to Youtube and if you’ve transcribed your audio, which I know you have because you are a very, very smart person, you are able to upload the transcriptions to Youtube and then the entire episode becomes searchable with keywords. Imagine that somebody be able to type in some keywords and finding your video on youtube and then they can find your show. I’m on all the platforms that you’re on. So, um, in order to export it, you’ll go to file save project as, Oh, I’m sorry, export video up. There it is. And then we’ll just call it good to be home for a log and you export it. And that’s it. Have you podcasting.
